Soy - Food Fighters

Written by: Walter H. Wainright

The health benefits of soy have been controversial. Although the soybean matrix is complex and contains a great amino acid protein base, anti-viral, anti-allergy, anti-inflammatory, vasodilator and anti-cancer properties there are people against soy products. Much of the disagreement between those “for” or “against” soy products comes from the fact that all soy products are not created equal.

Unfermented soy products contain haemagglutinin and trypsin inhibitors, which are growth-stunting factors. In addition, unfermented soy products have one of the highest phytate levels of any grain or legume. Most critics of soy dislike soy products for these reasons. However, a good fermented soy product eliminates undesirable compounds and accentuates the positive benefits of the components in soy. Haelan 951, a commercially available fermented soy beverage has a study showing that stunted animals are restored to normal growth after consuming this fermented soy product. Research also shows that the complaint about the phytate content in soybeans is offset by the fact that the mineral binding characteristics of the phytates prevent colon and colon-rectal cancers and slow down the growth rate of other cancers. A good fermented whole soy product does not have the objectionable characteristics found in unfermented soy products. Research has shown anti-aging and other health benefits derived from soy components in numerous studies. It is safe to say unfermented soy products have problems but a good fermented soy product can be great. They can provide tremendous health benefits, particularly for cancer patients.

An NCI $20 million study of anti-cancer compounds in foods discovered five super star classes of anti-cancer compounds. All are in soybeans. These were identified as isoflavones, protease inhibitors, phytosterols, saponins and phytic acid compounds. A report on these anti-cancer compounds was published in the Journal of the NCI on April 17, 1991. Since this publication there have been more than 8,000 studies on soy and its beneficial health promoting compounds. All soy products are not created equal. A good one is fermented. Some products are manufactured from the whole soybean while others contain isolated components of soy. One fermented whole soy beverage, Haelan 951, has an extensive anti-aging clinical study and is considered by many to be the best anti-aging product in the world. The healthy beneficial mechanisms of soy compounds include DNA repair, anti-angiogenesis, restoration of apoptosis, immune stimulation, detoxification, improved estrogen metabolism, enhanced organ function, reduction of cancer cell division times (mytosis), protection from the toxic side effects of chemotherapy treatments, and the prevention of cancer cell mutations induced by chemotherapy.

In summary, fermented soy products are known to contain isoflavones, protease inhibitors, saponins, phytosterols, and phytic acid compounds that exhibit anticancer activity in preclinical models. Research supports the prospective evaluation of fermented soy products as an alternative therapy in patients with chemotherapy refractory ovarian cancer and other cancers that are not responsive to chemotherapy. The use of these products to enhance chemotherapy, reduce toxic effects of chemotherapy and prevent mutations induced by chemotherapy offers new hope for many patients. In addition, these products can help the physician manage the disease while it is treated with conventional therapies resulting in improved treatment compliance and patient outcomes.

3 Myth-Busters About Cancer

Test yourself: Which of these three cancer myths is a fact?
· Cancer is not contagious -- myth or fact?
Some cancer is caused by contagious viruses, like HIV. So in a way, you can catch cancer. You can’t directly swap cancer through bloodstream, saliva, or germs, but you can pass along some of the organisms that could cause cancer in a roundabout way. This is especially true for cervical and liver cancers, as well as some lymphomas.

· Benign tumors should always be left alone -- myth or fact?
Benign tumors don’t have cancer cells, but they can still be dangerous. That’s because tumors can grow large enough to block the pathway of important nutrients, or put pressure on critical organs. For example, even though many brain tumors will never spread, they are still removed.

· If you’re diagnosed with cancer, you need treatment right away -- myth or fact?
Even though some cancers spread quickly, it’s always smart to get a second opinion. Good doctors will encourage you to get one to confirm that the diagnosis is correct. The best second opinion comes from a doctor at a different institution than where the first doctor practices, and one that is well regarded in cancer treatment. After that, see someone that specializes in the type of cancer involved, because he or she will have a better handle on the different courses of treatment.

New Strategies for Autism

New Strategies for Autism David A. Steenblock BSc, MSc, DO

Such a mysterious disease-condition-behavior! Most scientists and physicians seem to be totally baffled by the condition. Almost fifty years ago (1951) the medical definition was "The condition of being dominated by subjective, self-centered trends of thought and behavior." (Dorland's Medical Dictionary 23 edition.) The 28th edition of the same medical dictionary (1994) changed it to, "autistic thinking; preoccupation with inner thoughts, daydreams, fantasies, delusions, and hallucinations; egocentric, subjective thinking lacking objectivity and connection with reality. The self often predominates to the total exclusion of that which is not self. Seen in schizophrenia, some forms of depression, and a variety of other mental disorders."

The term autism was first introduced in 1943 by Kanner to indicate the condition wherein children, despite excellent motor skills (normal motor milestones and facile use of hands) and retentive memory, fail to mature socially, i.e., to form any emotional bonds with parents and other individuals, and often to learn speak. There are thought to be two general types of autism. In one group, the child is seemingly well until 18 to 24 months at which time an alarming regression in their development occurs and they may stop speaking and begin to lose interest in their surroundings and interactions. Often these developmental regressions begin to occur shortly after some type of stress such as a DPT shot or other immunization, injury, fever, toxin, infection (such as Kawasaki's), etc.

With the other type of autism, the child appears to be abnormal from the first months of life. The level of activity is reduced, the child cries little and is indifferent to his or her surroundings. According to many authorities the outcome of childhood autism is discouraging. One third of the patients never speak, another third acquire a rudimentary language devoid of communicative value, and in the remainder, an affected, stilted, colorless speech develops. As many as a third of these patients as they grow older will manifest signs and symptoms of a variety of cerebral diseases.

So much for the books! In my experience, most of these children have a variety of problems which all come together to cause the behavioral and speech difficulties. In my opinion and experience, once the various problems are sorted through and corrected, these children do have a chance to become much more normal than heretofore thought possible.

The recent discovery that secretin helps a number of these children is a good example that shows that we have a tremendous amount of knowledge yet to be learned about this condition. Of considerable interest in this regard is that in general at this point the information I have been receiving is that secretin may be most beneficial for those children with abnormal bowel functions. Hypocretin (a part of the secretin molecule) is a newly discovered neurotransmitter and acts by stimulating the hypothalamus and other brain centers. My idea that secretin injected into the body breaks down to hypocretin and this then is what is causing the beneficial results may not be correct or it may be part of the answer. On the other hand secretin acts on the pancreatic ducts to cause copious secretion of a very alkaline pancreatic juice that is rich in bicarbonate. Secretin is secreted by the S cells that are located deep in the glands of the mucosa of the upper portion of the small intestine. The chemical structure is similar to that of glucagon, GLI, VIP, and GIP. Its half life is 5 minutes and augments the action of CCK in producing pancreatic secretion of digestive enzymes. It decreases gastric acid and may cause contraction of the pyloric sphincter. The secretion of secretin is increased by the products of protein digestion and by acid bathing the mucosa of the upper small intestine. Normally the acid passing from the stomach to the upper small intestine will act to stimulate the secretion of secretin which then releases the alkaline pancreatic juice which neutralizes the acid entering the upper small intestine. As the pH is changed from acid to alkaline, the secretion of secretin is shut off and pancreatic juices also stop flowing. In autistic children this feedback mechanism and the secretion of secretin may be impaired. This would explain the persistently acid pH's of the stool contents of these children and would explain the benefit of the secretin when given by injection. If secretin is not normally being produced by the S cells or is not being regulated by the stomach acid content then the pancreas will not secrete the alkaline pancreatic juice in response to protein digestion products. The stool contents will become persistently acid and this acid will wreak havoc on the intestine's inner walls. Persistently lower stool pH's (more acid) will cause damage to the delicate inner intestinal mucosa which will increase the permeability "openness" of the mucosa. Bacteria, yeast, food and all of their various metabolic breakdown products will be able to pass much more easily into the blood and lymphatics of the intestine. All of these become "toxins" and are carried to the brain or enter into the intestine's wall and undergo a chemical war with the body's defense system. This war that develops in the intestinal walls between the entering toxins and the white blood cells of the body may well release a variety of "biogenic amines" "cytokines" and indoles, skatoles, polyamines, etc. all of which can pass into the blood and also the CSF (via the intestinal lymphatics and Bateson's paravertebral shunt). From there these toxic substances become readily available to interact with a "predisposed brain."

Autistics are also predisposed to allergies and this predisposition may partially explain why so many siblings have autism. Many parents observe that autistic episodes are often worsened when their child eats certain foods such as wheat, milk, sugar, eggs, corn, etc. High levels of certain food derived polypeptides are found in the urine and their immune complexation with IgG antibodies as well. High levels of immune complexes, anti-nuclear antibodies and other markers of chronic infection and vasculitis are often found if looked for (blood tests). These children often suffer from recurrent middle ear infections and fluid in the middle ear. Frequently they have been given multiple antibiotics and have developed chronic intestinal yeast infections which neither they, their parents or their doctors have noticed or tried to diagnose. Often these children suffer from colic during the first year of life (long thought to be caused by food allergies), or from diarrhea, constipation, and mal-odors. These various bowel problems need to be investigated and treated. I generally recommend the Great Smokies Lab for this test (comprehensive stool exam and parasitology test). Follow up tests should be done every three months to be sure that these infections have been corrected.

Hyperactivity is often a problem which gets worse with the ingestion of certain foods or exposures to the smell of chemicals, or perfumes. These people often have seizures (epilepsy) which can be brought on by certain foods, or sugars and often suffer from the development of a red and hot face and/or ears due to food allergies. Sometimes they have food cravings or are very "picky" or may refuse to eat anything but a few of their favorite foods. They often are of small statue and look somewhat younger than they are- possibly due to malnutrition. Of interest is that the speech centers of the brain require iron and zinc or they don't develop during their critical times of development. Both of these can be severely depleted by an acute infectious process such as autistic children often have had as a precipitating event.

A predisposed brain is what these children have in that they have subtle brain injuries that have occurred in utero, at birth or secondary to some other subsequent trauma. A good bibliography for this is found on the web at http://nodulus.extern.ucsd.edu. which is the web site for the Laboratory for Research on the Neuroscience of Autism. Unfortunately, up to recently, these subtle brain injuries were not recognizable by the diagnostic tests that were available. Since the tests doctors used on these children didn't show up the problems, it was thought that they didn't have any injuries. (Another tribute in the hall of shame to the ego of doctors.) Finally, diagnostic tests such as 3-D, 3 headed SPECT scans, PET scans, MRI spectroscopy and functional MRI are beginning to show that many if not all of these children do have subtle brain injuries.

Some of these injuries occur by genetic errors. Cell proliferation, migration, growth and differentiation are all regulated by genetic codes which if there are errors present will result in abnormal development or lack of development of critical parts of the brain such as the cerebellum.

Other factors include various toxins such as xenobiotics which are foreign chemicals which when breathed in or swallowed or absorbed will damage the brain. For example, alcohol ingestion by a pregnant woman can result in the loss or damage of a type of cerebellar cell called the Purkinje cell. Loss of Purkinje cells occurs when a pregnant woman takes various drugs such as the anticonvulsant valproic acid. This and ingestion of thalidomide have been associated with the development of autism.

Viruses can infect the rapidly divided brain cells especially of the cerebellum which results in a smaller structure which has been associated with autism. Viral infections can do a tremendous degree and a great variety of types of brain maldevelopment and disturbed neural connections all of which could result in autism.

Trauma is a very serious problem for babies and children and can be due to a number of different events. Birth trauma is associated with lack of oxygen (hypoxia), pressure changes on the brain, hemorrhage into the brain, shear stress, ischemia-reperfusion injury, free radical production, etc. Changes in the inner blood vessel wall involving the endothelium secondary to these traumatic events can create permanently spastic microvessels which in turn causes chronic hypoxia. The trauma can also trigger the production of a variety of genetic changes including the induction of early-response genes, heat shock genes, metallothionin genes, etc. in the endothelium and in the neurons and glia cells of the injured areas. These damaged tissues in turn can react with white blood cells to induce the production of autoantibodies. These antibodies can then continue to be produced forever and always be in the system causing inflammation and vascular spasm. These autoantibodies may also be directed at the various decarboxylases present at the terminal nerve synapses. Glutamate decarboxylase and histidine decarboxylase are found close together in these synapses. Autoantibodies can penetrate through the neurons to reach these sites and inactivate these enzymes. If this happens the glutamate decarboxylase would no longer be able to convert the glutamate that is being released by the neurons to glutamine. Glutamate would remain in the extracellular spaces and contribute or totally cause the hyperactivity, seizures and loss of attention of these children. The inactivation of histidine decarboxylase could result in more histamine being present which would help explain the allergic and chemical sensitivities these children have. Both of these decarboxylase enzymes are vitamin B-6 and magnesium dependent enzymes and when these children are given supplemental vitamin B-6 and magnesium, often you see improvements in their conditions. Vitamin C is also helpful and this may be due to a variety of reasons including more rapid detoxification of xenobiotics, decrease in histamine levels, a decrease in adrenalin levels, a decrease in stress hormones, improvement in capillary permeability (less), improvement in connective tissue construction, etc.

The endothelium is the inner lining of the blood vessels and in this condition, may well be the key factor involved with causing the symptoms. Correction of the damage these brain endothelial cells have suffered from trauma, hemorrhage, viruses, xenobiotics, intestinal bacterial and yeast metabolites, etc is vitally important since these damages will remain fixed in these cells forever unless actively corrected. To do this a variety of tests need to be done. These include the Great Smokies quantitative plasma amino acids, quantitative urine amino acids, serum and urine minerals, urine organic acids (Great Plains Laboratory, Wichita, Kansas), fatty acid profile, Great Smokies comprehensive stool and parasite test, TORCH viral panel, Epstein-Barr comprehensive panel, Herpes VI, food allergy panels IgE and IgG4, ANA, interleukin 6 and11, interferon alpha, interferon gamma, ESR, C-R-P, haptoglobin, Adrenal stress panel, chemistry panel, thyroid panel. These may look overwelming and there is no way that I would order all of these to be done at one time. Start with the comprehensive stool test and allergy tests since these are things you can change around with the food choices you are making.

After you get the diet changed around and the bowels cleaned up, and you have tried the secretin a few times, start to look at the other tests and begin to correct the abnormalities you find with these. About this time you should begin to think about the use of hyperbaric oxygen and magnetic therapy. Both of these seem to be quite helpful at changing the health of the endothelial cells and thus the brain's blood vessels. Results can be seen within a few days with these therapies. A magnetic bed can be used every night and is helpful. In my experience, static magnetic field treatments using 3000 gauss given for a total of 150 to 200 hours will generally produce a long term very positive effect and daily hyperbaric oxygen treatments for a total of between 60 and 180 treatments also have been shown to be quite helpful.

Health Summit draws crowds

Article orginally printed in the Salt Lake Tribune, November 24, 2006. Written by Wendy Frank.

Alternative medicine attracted the curious and those skeptical of traditional methods, to the South Towne Expo.

The Alternative Health Summit that wrapped up recently at the South Towne Expo Center served as a magnet for the curious, including medical practional Yentai Ng of West Jordan.

"I just came to check things out," said Ng, who claims he can see people's auras and their past lives.

Presented by Derrick Walker, founder of the Alternative Medicine Referral Network, the event was an East-meets-West convergence of medicine, science and spirituality.

"There 's so much to learn at each booth," said Janet Ainsworth of Bluffdale. "I only visited four in five hours."

All told, there were 40 booths touting the latest in nontraditional therapeutic practics and products -- everything from a fermented soy beverage concocted to protect patients from the toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation to a device that applied vibrational frequencies to supposedly boost flexibility and muscle strength.

For people plagued by a general malaise, there was an ionic-detoxification process that was said to draw toxins from the body. For an aching neck or back, there was a thermal-massage bed system. There also was Quantum Touch healing for people who tote backpacks or babies and had their hips out of line.

Natalie Bowman of Payson was impressed with the hip therapy she received from Mary Strack. "When she put her hands on my hips," Bowman said, I felt a warmth. And when she finished, I actually felt lighter, like a weight had been lifted."

Fad dieters at the summit had lots of information to digest, particularly from a testimonial-filled newsletter about losing inches and boosting the immune system through swallong colostrum supplements.

A huge draw at the event was the electrodermal-assessment machine, voted the world's top light-acupuncture machine by the German Acupuncture Society. For some, a shot ofr two of exotic hand-packaged tea was energizing enough. Others gravitated to samples of dark chocolate made from unprocessed cocoa, assured they would be lowering their "bad" cholesterol, not upping their weight.

There was plenty more to devour in presentations such as "Spirituality and Healing" by special guest, Dr. Joan Borysenko, "Remote Viewing" (the ablility to perceive people and things in distant time) by Talia Shafir, "Earthing" (healing through barefoot contact with the earth) by Clint Ober, and "Feng Shui clutter clearing" by Claudia Draper.

Many at the summit said they turned to alternative medicine after more traditional approaches failed to heal their health woes.

"In my teens I became very sick,"said Terry Austin of Draper. "octors did the best they could, but that led me on a differrent journey to something bigger out there. Drugs aren't the answer." Added Sandy Root, also of Draper, "Whatever we can do to take charge of our medical care through self-education will enable us to make more informed choices."

What is EECP?

What Is EECP?

Enhanced External Counter-pulsation (EECP) is a non-surgical therapy for angina, heart disease, high blood pressure, and other conditions involving poor circulation.

A Natural Bypass

If you've been diagnosed with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetic neuropathy, or another circulatory disorder, you could benefit from a non-surgical therapy called EECP.

This therapy is sometimes referred to as a "natural bypass" because it enhances the body's ability to create new pathways for blood flow around clogged arteries. EECP greatly accelerates the formation of tiny blood vessels called collaterals, helping restore healthy circulation to organs and tissues that have been deprived of blood and oxygen.

How Does EECP Work?

During an EECP treatment, you lie on a bed wearing a series of adjustable cuffs around your calves, lower thighs, and upper thighs. The cuffs are inflated in sequence, placing pressure on the legs that assists blood flow from the lower limbs to the heart. The inflation of the cuffs is timed to occur so that increased blood flow is delivered to the heart at the precise moment it is relaxing. Then, just before the heart pumps, the cuffs deflate, reducing resistance and decreasing the heart's workload.

A treatment session lasts about one hour, during which you can read, listen to music, or relax comfortably. Most patients undergo 35 one-hour sessions, once or twice a day, over the course

EECP Relieves Angina Pain

EECP was developed at Harvard University almost 50 years ago as a therapy for angina, the squeezing chest pain that occurs when the heart is not getting enough oxygen. This most common symptom of coronary artery disease can be extremely disabling, interfering with the ability to work, exercise, or enjoy social activities.

By encouraging the formation of collaterals around blockages in the coronary arteries, EECP enhances the heart's supply of oxygen and reduces chest pain. Several studies conducted at leading university medical centers have shown that patients who undergo a course of EECP experience significant benefits:

-They have fewer episodes of angina
-The episodes of angina are less intense
-They need less anti-angina medication
-They can walk farther without experiencing angina
-They can resume work and enjoy more social activities

Unlike drugs that are prescribed for angina, EECP is completely safe and without side effects. And unlike angioplasty and bypass surgery ¡X highly invasive surgical interventions that are used to clear or circumvent blockages in the arteries ¡X EECP can be done on an outpatient basis and requires no post-treatment recovery period. EECP's benefits in heart disease are now so well recognized that Medicare reimburses for it.

Many patients undergo EECP after suffering a heart attack or enduring one or even several surgeries for coronary artery disease. In some cases, EECP is their only option. Yet this non-invasive therapy is so safe and effective that it should be considered as a first-line treatment for angina, not just a last resort after surgery has been ruled out.

For a growing number of patients, opting for EECP before consenting to a potentially dangerous surgical procedure is an obvious decision. In less time than it takes to recover from bypass surgery, these patients can complete a full course of EECP and begin enjoying an active, pain-free life.

What Other Conditions Benefit From EECP?

EECP isn't just a powerful therapy for angina. Virtually any condition in which poor circulation is a contributing factor can benefit from EECP Here is just a partial list:

Congestive heart failure
Diabetic neuropathy
Erectile dysfunction
Hypertension
Kidney disease
Memory disorders
Peripheral vascular disease
Parkinsons disease
Vision problems
Research Studies & Demonstarted Results

Angina
An international study group evaluated EECP's effectiveness for patients with chronic stable angina at seven medical centers. After treatment, 85 percent of patients experienced a significant improvement in their angina symptoms, and 83 percent showed a measurable increase in blood flow to the heart. Exercise capacity also improved significantly. American Journal of Cardiology, 2002; 89(7): 822-4.

DIABETES

Researchers from Harvard Medical School studied EECP's effects on angina in diabetic patients with or without congestive heart failure. EECP was equally effective in both groups: on average, 70 percent of patients experienced a significant reduction in the severity of their angina. The number of angina episodes per week decreased by an average of 10 percent. Nitroglycerin use also declined. Abstract #689-P, 62nd Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association, San Francisco, California, June 15, 2002.

Eye Disease

German researchers studied the effects of EECP on blood flow to the eyes in elderly patients with diagnosed coronary artery disease. They measured blood flow through the ophthalmic artery, a major vessel that provides two-third's of the retina's blood supply. After EECP, patients experienced an average improvement of 11.4 percent in blood flow through the ophthalmic artery. Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology. 2001; 239(80); 599-602.

Anti-Aging Medicine has many goals…

… some of them, like extending the maximum lifespan, of about 120 years, are not yet within our reach. But many are realistic and worth striving for:

Who wouldn’t like to delay the onset of aging and to extend the years we live healthily and in good shape?

Who wouldn’t like to live longer and beyond the average lifespan of currently about 80 years?

Who wouldn’t like to prevent the diseases that frequently come with advanced age, like memory loss, fatigue, heart disease, stroke, cancer or arthritis?

How do we move towards these goals? Here are some of the essential steps:

1 Prevent Premature Aging

The first and most important step in Anti-Aging Medicine is good old prevention. How do you answer the following questions?

Is my diet healthy, low in sugar and trans-fatty acids, high in vegetables and with the optimal amount of protein?

Am I overeating? Caloric restriction has been shown to extend age and to prevent cancer in mammals, although its effect is yet unproven in humans?

Do I suffer from Hyperinsulinism? A high fasting Insulin level promotes premature aging, even in non-diabetics.

Do I have a toxic lifestyle -smoking, too much alcohol, drugs- or am I exposed to environmental toxins?

Am I chronically stressed, which causes an elevation of Cortisol and a decline in DHEA?

Do I get enough sleep? Most people need 7 to 8 hours, which cannot be reduced without negative consequences.

Do I exercise enough or possibly even over-exercise?

Do I feel depressed, isolated or does my life lack meaning?
2. Take Antioxidants:

Denham Harman is the father of the free radical theory of aging. Put simply: oxidation, which constantly goes on in our body, produces unpaired electrons, so-called free radicals, which damage various cell structures, like DNA, RNA, and proteins. Exogenous antioxidants, which are taken in with food or as nutritional supplements should therefore slow aging.

3. Hormone Replacement:

As we age, the body produces less and less hormones; a process that, by the way, starts already in the 20s. For example, our levels of DHEA, Growth Hormone, Melatonin and sex hormones steadily decline from decade to decade. In addition, aging cells become more and more resistant to the effects of hormones. That leads, according to the neuroendocrine theory of aging, to a hormonal starvation of our cells. Without sufficient hormones, the body’s ability to repair and regulate itself is impaired. Hormone replacement therapy is therefore thought to reset the hormonal clock, delay the onset of aging and provide vitality and energy.

Like everything in medicine, a hormone replacement has to be individualized, and the potential risks and benefits have to be taken into account. If you are considering a hormone replacement program, you first need to get a lab test to determine your current hormone levels.

Founder's Commentary for October, 2005

Greetings friends and supporters of the Alternative Medicine Referral Network;
September was indeed a great time for growth for the Alternative Medicine Referral Network.

In addition to signing on some great companies as sponsors, we attended some wonderful events and promoted our network.

At the end of the month, we held our first mixer and I want to thank everyone who was present. There were approximately 65 people in attendance and the mixer was hosted by international Business Intuitive, Mr. George Shaver. George was a pleasure to talk with and was the perfect host. During the week, we will be setting up a live line where anyone with questions can talk to George directly by clicking an icon on our website.

The Alternative Medicine Referral Network was also represented at the CAMEXPO, held in Los Angeles. This was a wonderful show! I left the show thinking that this is truly a wonderful time to be present in this world. I believe that we can treat and reverse; - if not cure most of the ailments people have through the use of better nutrition along with alternative and complementary therapies. I encourage anyone who has been diagnosed with a chronic illness to call us and contact one of our alternative physicians.

There is a new sponsor we have, Nationwide Beverage Bottling, Inc. I encourage you to take a look at their products and if you are so drawn, consider investing. Not even having been in business for a year, I am impressed by the number of large clients they have in their portfolio.

Nationwide Beverage Bottling initiated public trading on the Pink Sheets as of May 12, 2005 (NBVB.PK). As a new member, we are anticipating rapid growth and are in the process of petitioning for trading options on the NASDAQ as soon as time permits. Unlike other new companies, we are not in the start-up phase in need of seed capital. We have a manufacturing company with significant capacity to produce a thousand bottles of water per minute and we have a marketing and distribution liaison in existences. We look for rapid and continued growth as our company gains its foothold in the market place.

Nationwide Beverage Bottling has been doing a local “road show” in southern California at various malls. In addition to providing water for U.S. Troops and Katrina victims. KoKomo Water is a flagship product of NBB. KoKomo brand offers a complete line of naturally flavored mountain spring and "aqua-ceutical" water products.

To talk with someone regarding investor relations or get information for Nationwide Beverage Bottling, please contact the company directly at:

We are also working to make the Alternative Medicine Referral Network more "user friendly" and get our referral clients more quickly in touch with practitioners and clinics. There is a feature we will be adding to cross-connect those with questions directly with a therapist. This feature has been implemented and is being fine-tuned during October.

I feel as though we are at the flash-point of what I call a "Revolution in Wellness". This has taken root in the national consciousness and I see it through people who call our referral line, visits to holistic clinics and simply day-to-day contact. More people than ever are seeking to be truly "Well", and are willing to make lifestyle changes. I ask that more of us continue to share our experiences with others so more people may benefit.

The use of alternative therapies is increasing.

Nearly two-thirds of American adults use some form of complementary or alternative medicine ranging from prayer to herbs, a U.S. government survey showed. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted the survey of 31,000 U.S. adults, asking about 27 types of therapies such as acupuncture and chiropractic, the use of herbs or botanical products, special diets, and megavitamin therapy. About 36 percent of those surveyed said they had used one or more of those approaches. When prayer was considered, the number rose to 62 percent. Women, people with higher education, those who had been hospitalized within the past year and former smokers were all more likely to use complementary or alternative approaches, the survey found.

We are a resource for those seeking health answers.

With more people than ever seeking information on alternative medicine and receiving treatments from alternative practitioners, we formed the Alternative Medicine Referral Network to be a resource for the general public to connect with licensed, certified and pre-screened holistic practitioners.

Founders Commentary for September, 2005

from Derrick Walker

Greetings friends and supporters of the Alternative Medicine Referral Network;

August was a fantastic month for us! The Alternative Medicine Referral Network was represented at the American Naturopathic Medical Association show in Las Vegas. Additionally, the Anti-Aging Congress had a very successful tradeshow over the weekend of August 19-21 in Chicago. From the reports I have heard, this was the largest attendance for the anti-aging event. I also attended several workshops, including Cindy Shuster's "Belly Wisdom - Own your own Greatness Intensive" at Awakenings bookstore in Laguna Beach, CA. and was very impressed with the material covered and Cindy's teaching on living an 'authentic life'. If you are fortunate enough to be in town when she speaks or gives a workshop, I encourage you to attend. You will learn a great deal... about yourself! We will be sending out information to members on how to enter a drawing for Cindy Shuster's "Belly Wisom" CD. I also had the rare pleasure of hearing Dr. Julian Whitaker of the Whitaker Wellness Institute speak. It was very inspiring and was a great reminder of how much of a role our choices play in every aspect of our health.

AMRN has just signed on a sponsor who will be doing testing with a device that can tell us how effective our anti-oxidant level is along with how well our supplement use is working. I took this quick 3-minute test and scored well, however there is room for improvement. There will be more information on this and how to obtain a test for yourself during the coming weeks. Please check back on our website or call 1.866.890.0970.

We are also working to make the Alternative Medicine Referral Network more "user friendly" and get our referral clients more quickly in touch with practitioners and clinics. There is a feature we will be adding to cross-connect those with questions directly with a therapist. This feature should be implemented during September.

We got a call from a young woman in New York state who asked for my assistant, Leslie. Leslie was not available so I took the call. As it turns out, this woman was diagnosed with breast cancer and was calling to give a very emotional 'thank you' to Leslie for referring her to one of our holistic doctors. Through the treatments she has received, not only is her cancer in remission, but she has developed a very positive outlook via the emotional and spiritual counseling she has received. I was sincerely touched by this call and asked for a testimonial letter.

I strongly urge anyone who is suffering with a health issue or who has a relative or friend who is looking for deeper answers to their health issues to look into alternative medicine. This should not preempt any other measures you are already taking through your traditional physician, but it is an avenue that should be explored. As we are seeing in our lifetime, more and more traditional medicine is merging with alternative medicine and I think this will keep us all healthier for a longer time.

"Diet is the essential key to all successful healing. Without a proper balanced diet, the effectiveness of herbal treatment is very limited. With the appropriate eliminative or balanced diet, herbal treatment will prove itself to be effective where no medicine will work and will often be faster than the quick but temporary relief of Western drugs."
